In 2023 Komori celebrates its 100th year anniversary. We have not achieved the success of the past 100 years alone. It takes strong, reliable and lasting relationships to do so.
This series of "Anniversary wishes" features partnerships that have been part of Komori history.
Talking today
Johan van de Scheur & Peter Schoenmaker (DGA) from Van de Scheur Logistiek.
When & how started your relationship with Komori?
I (Johan van de Scheur) heard in 1988 that Komori wanted to establish itself in the Netherlands. Then I took the plunge and went to the Ipax fair in Birmingham, England. We walked up to the Komori stand and spoke to Mr. Wurpel. After this first encounter, we did not immediately start working together. We got a trial assignment to place a 40-inch press in the Komori showroom in Utrecht. We were very excited, and the press was transferred to the showroom. Mr. Izuka has been watching the project and approved the transfer and since then the collaboration has kicked off.
Can you also tell a bit more about the work you are doing?
Van de Scheur Logistiek is a full-service logistic partner specialised in machine transport, industrial relocation and lifting services. When new machines from Japan arrive at the Port of Rotterdam we arrange the pick-up, the unloading, the storage and European transportation to customers. And for the Komori subsidiaries (UK, Italy and France) we work together with the Komori team to set everything neatly levelled and we help with the installation. Plus, we deliver support for big exhibitions like DRUPA. This involves a lot of shipment, preparation and storage. In these times at least 60% of our company is busy with Komori.
What do you like about working together with Komori?
It's a beautiful moment. Komori is celebrating its 100-year anniversary, we will be celebrating our next year when Van de Scheur exists for 90 years and we have been working together for 35 years now.
That we work together for so long is because of mutual respect. Knowing what we have to offer each other. Komori and Van de Scheur both want to deliver quality to the customer. And when we say yes, it is a yes. Plan B is not an option. We strive for quality and deliver what we promise, in good and bad times.
Do you have special memories or anecdotes to talk about working with Komori?
We are also working for Komori Currency and for these installations, we visited very special places. For example, the Bank of England. Which is very impressive and there are parts where only the royal family is allowed. Plus, the security is of the highest level which even means going to the toilet with a security guard. Yet when working on these projects and experiencing this, it makes us proud to work together.
I (Johan van de Scheur) went to Japan twice. The first time was to learn more about the installations of a currency press. The second time was with customers, and we went to the Komori factory and IGAS. It was very special, and I will never forget the moment I came out of the bus, Mr. Mochida stepped forward to say hi. We knew each other from the time he was President of Komori Europe, and he still remembered my name and face. It was such a friendly gesture.
Do you have any future outlooks or anniversary wishes for Komori?
We look forward to working together for another 35 years! The enthusiasm is still present, and we appreciate the partnership we created. As a family business, now 4th generation, we, like Komori, place great value on long-term partnerships. Over the past 35 years that we are working together, Komori has grown, but at the same time Van de Scheur. We have adapted to growth to continue supporting Komori. Happy birthday!
